Fall 2017

Leadership: Story, Structure, Strategy

Public Narrative

Oct 12th, 6:00 p.m. (EST)

Leadership is accepting responsibility for enabling others to achieve shared purpose in the face of uncertainty. Narrative is how we learn to access the moral resources – the courage – to make the choices that shape our identities – as individuals, as communities, as nations.

Relationship Building

October 26th 7:00p.m. (EST)

Leadership is also about helping others in our communities to achieve purpose through relationship-building. In order to overcome the inevitable hurdles that come with organizing, this session will focus on how to identify other leaders in your organizing community, build capacity within your group, and achieve effective action over time. Participants will learn how to have an effective one-on-one conversation for an issue-based or electoral campaign.

Theory of Change

November 9th 7:00 p.m. (EST)

You have learned how to tell your personal stories and how one-on-one meetings can help you develop lasting and powerful relationships. In this session, the trainer will explain why groups trying to achieve political change must have a theory of change.  The trainer will teach you how to understand your problem, think about why it hasn't been solved, and help you develop your theory for a solution.

Strategic Planning

November 21 7:00 p.m. (EST)

The final session will train you in the art of strategy and will equip you with the skillset to develop a strategic plan to take on your theory of change.  Specifically, you will learn each step of political strategy design, from creating organizational goals and mapping out allies and opponents, to figuring out which methods constituent groups can best use to make their power felt.

Resistance School will be simultaneously streamed on the main page of our website (www.resistanceschool.com) and via Facebook Live (https://www.facebook.com/ResistSchool/) the nights of each session.  The Facebook Live version will remain available on our Facebook page permanently.  The website version will be moved to the corresponding session page sometime the following day, after which it will be available for unlimited playback.
